The first time I knew ‘mummy’ vocabulary, was maybe when I was in elementary school. Never had I paid much attention to Egypt’s history, I just knew that we have seven wonders of the old world there which is the pyramid, that’s it.

Yesterday, when I was bored to death, I stumbled upon a documentary about Egypt. The title is Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb. I have been aware of Saqqara since a few months ago, I saw the title on YouTube but never paid attention to it. But because I don’t know what to watch, I clicked on it and tried to enjoy it.

And wow, I found a great documentary about mummies. The film itself told a story about Wahtye, a priest in the old days centuries ago. The archeologists found his tomb and tried to uncover thousands of secrets from his tomb. They found all Wahtye family in that tomb but realized something extraordinary from their bones. The bones of Wahtye pointed out that he had a medical issue. The professor of rheumatology at Cairo University, Amira Shahin, had a theory about that. She thought that Wahtye could suffer from malaria, if this notion can be proved, it will be the first case of malaria in history.

I didn’t realize until I watched this documentary that discovering a tomb is a big deal in our world. In the back of my mind, logically I know it. But knowing in an abstract way and seeing are two different things altogether. Now, I appreciate history, culture, and old civilization much more than before.
